What is My True Purpose in Life?
"The purpose of life is not to be happy - but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you have lived at all." ~Leo Rosten
"Being good is commendable, but only when it is combined with doing good is it useful." -Unknown
"The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to him his own." - Ben Disraeli
"We may make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give". -Winston Churchhill
I was never one of those people who knew what I wanted to be when I grew, but I've always known I wanted to help people. I never quite knew in what way so I dabbled in many college majors, jobs and careers in search of doing something I enjoyed and gave me the satisfaction that I possibly was helping others.
Somebody gave me a questionnaire a while back titled "What is my true purpose in life" uugghh...what a daunting task to have to dig that deep to answer the questions. Well, the other day for some reason I felt compelled to work on it (I have listed all the questions below and encourage you to dig deep and take a stab at it). What makes me happy? What are my strengths? What do I hate? The answers and lists started to flow and then I heard a voice loud and clear in my head...."I just want to help people". It became clear to me that while I am building a business, building a brand, manufacturing t-shirts etc...ultimately my purpose and passion through Primo is to help people.
- To encourage them to "find their Primo"
- To encourage them to recognize and celebrate when they do
- To recognize other peoples good
- To inspire others
- To motivate others
- To empower others to be their best ...and that's a beautiful thing!
...In keeping with the theme of helping others, today's "Shout Out" goes to Rachel Van Dyke. An amazing 12 year old (or there abouts) from Atlanta who dedicates her time and talents to helping other kids. In 2004 (with some help from her mom) Rachel created an amazing program called Special Twist , a nationally competitive special needs cheerleading program. Thanks to Rachel these kids are getting opportunities that otherwise they would not have. I think this program and this young lady are Awesome! Rachel you found your Primo and are helping others to find theirs...You go girl!
Questionnaire Cut-Paste-Print (below) and save for when you're ready....
What makes me happy?
What are my strengths?
What do I like to do?
Where do my strengths overlap with the things I like to do?
What am I passionate about? What do I love to hear about/talk about/learn about?
What do I hate?
What am I truly bad at?
What % of each day do I play to my strengths and what am I doing during that time?
What % of each day do I do things I like andwaht am I doing during that time?
What kind of person do I want to be remembered as having been?
What do I have to offer, waht are my God given gifts?
What are my needs?
What invigorates me?
What drains me?
If money were not an issue, what would my dream jobs be given my passions and my strengths?
What do I want to do to achieve balance in my life?

Hi Tanya,
Your blog is quite Wonderful -I'm reminded a of a quote from the great baby doctor Benjamin Spock -to children: "Trust yourself, you know more than you think you do." Unfortunately many parents seem to instill in their young ones a feeling of inadequacy. Very sad. It's equally important for parents to continue their learning as it is for kids. Take Care.

Ahhh, Dr. Spock...The "new" moms bible. Thanks so much Dick for reading and sharing. Love that quote, and yes, it is sad and common that parents do that. With my boys I struggle with the fine line between telling them they can achieve anything but giving them some heads up that there's a chance they might not make the team (or whatever else they are trying for) this time around so they won't be blindsided and devastated if they don't.
